Towards and Equitable and Inclusive Future: LGBTQIA+ Architects - Practice Disrupted
”Architects and designers who are working to create a more equitable future for all. One of the earliest episodes in our series, “Voices from the Future of the Profession” episode 016, was recorded in 2020. Since that recording date a number of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills and legislation has been passed across the United States – providing protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. As architects and designers we believe there is much more we can do to create safe and inclusive through the built environment and within our communities. We’ve invited a group of leaders to share their lived experiences and discuss what matters most in this moment of change.”
Out in Architecture Part 1 and 2 - Architecting with Angela Mazzi
Part 1 with Yiselle Santos Rivera + Sarah Nelson-Woynicz - “Understanding the lived experience of our clients and ourselves is essential to advancing our work as architects. In this interview, I speak with the masterminds behind the book Out in Architecture, a book dedicated to bringing visibility to the voices and experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. We discuss identity beyond practice, the intersection of identity and practice and reclaiming space and identity.”
Part 2 with A.L. Hu, Amy Rosen, and Beau Frail - “Who is missing from the conversation about design? What is it costing us not to give more diverse voices a seat at the table or spaces that reflect their identity? Hear from three of the Out in Architecture editors about how we can evolve practice and redefine design.”

Designing Gender Inclusive Spaces - Cooper Hewitt
”How does design impact gendered experience? Or rather, how does gendered experience impact design? Historically, design has neglected the needs of women, girls, transgender people, and gender minorities. In recent years, designers have worked to change gender-biased systems in their practice. View a conversation with architects and urban designers as they consider the role that design plays in creating safe and inclusive spaces for all genders.”
